Microdermabrasion is a deep exfoliating treatment that instantly produces smoother, softer and more radiant skin. Results are most effective over a course of treatments, as fine lines soften and any blemishes or skin markings reduce. Pores are deep cleansed, skin tone, texture and colour become more even and the production of new skin cells and collagen is boosted. With results like this Microdermabrasion should be an essential part of your skincare regime.
This treatment is for you if you:
- Want a deep exfoliating treatment
- Wish to remove dull, dead skin cells
- Desire smooth, soft, bright skin
- Are troubled with outbreaks or uneven skin tone
Why do we need Microdermabrasion?
Our skin has a natural skin cell renewal cycle of approximately 30 days. As the skin renews, dead skin cells can build up and thicken the Stratum Corneum (the outer most layer of the skin). This causes your complexion to look dull and lifeless.
Microdermabrasion can help skin concerns such as: fine lines, blackheads, acne, acne scars, stretch marks, age/sunspots, enlarged pores, uneven and rough skin, pigmentation and sun-damaged skin just to name a few.
How does it work?
Under positive pressure, fine stream of tiny particles of pure salt (Sodium Chloride) are delivered via an applicator; combined with low level vacuum, it is glided over the skin. The light abrasion technique mechanically removes dead skin cells on the face, neck, back and shoulders although more attention is spent on your main areas of concern.
How does the treatment feel?
The treatment is not uncomfortable and only a slight tingling sensation is felt. It can be described as mild sandpaper rubbing on your skin, which most people find soothing. After treatment you will have a slightly flushed faced with a windburn feel.
How many treatments are necessary?
For problematic skin an initial course of 6 to 12 treatments at fortnightly intervals is recommended. However, as skin is constantly renewing itself most clients return on a regular basis to keep their skin looking at its best.
What are the immediate results?
The skin will feel softer, appear brighter and be more uniform in colour. In addition, a special lifting technique can be carried out to plump and firm the skin.
Are there any side effects?
It is not uncommon for the skin to be red for a couple of hours after treatment. The skin may also be slightly dry and flaky for several days post treatment as the renewal occurs. Daily application of sun screen is required but otherwise you can return to normal activities.
DermaPhoresis is a 5-minute ultrasound treatment using an optimised frequency to gently massage a specially formulated masque cream containing powerful vitamins and glycolic products into the dermis of the skin. The ultrasound treatment has been developed to ensure that the effect of the masque cream is focused intradermally, i.e. in the top layers of the skin, to stimulate the fibroblast cells responsible for the production of new collagen and elastin. The masque cream contains carefully selected vitamins and other topical agents that are known fibroblast stimulators and are essential for skin renewal.
DermaPhoresis utilizes the sound waves of a 3 MHz UltraSound device to create an effect on the skin termed "cavitation". Cavitation by the ultrasound device produces an "air bubble" like effect in the lipid bi-layer of the stratum corneum. This allows increased permeability of the skin for a short time. The specially formulated cream (comprised of effective antioxidants and AHA's in concentrations not found in many over-the-counter products) is gently massaged in a repetitive and soothing circular motion into the skin with an ultrasonic device. A protective gel is then applied and you leave the clinic feeling "wonderful!"
